Robert Eugene "Gene" Ramsay, 89, of Springfield, died at 4:48 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017 at his home. Gene was born April 30, 1928 in Petersburg, the son of Wallace and Catherine Tibbs Ramsay. He married Georgia A. Nawn on August 2, 1955 in Fayetteville, NC; she preceded him in death on November 9, 2013. Gene graduated from Springfield High School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed in law enforcement for the Sangamon County Court System as a probation officer for the 7th Judicial Adult Juvenile Court. He served as a special agent for 20 years with the Illinois Department of Revenue. Gene was a member of Church of the Little Flower, Blue Ridge Club, Knights of Columbus Post 364, Little Flower Mens Club, YMCA, and Springfield Jaycees. He enjoyed fishing, boating in the Gulf of Mexico and his home in Fort Myers, FL, and being outdoors. He was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Ramsay; sister, Kathleen; and grandson, Jason Ramsay. He is survived by his sons, Mike (wife, Sandy) Ramsay and Mark (significant other, Johanna Simmering) Ramsay, both of Springfield; one grandchild; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Walter Ramsay of Yuma, AZ and Deanne Willis of Petersburg. Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:45 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Allen Kemme officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the Department of Defense.
