Robert Pinky Williams, 78, of Chatham, passed away Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Sunrise Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Virden, with his family at his side. He was born October 2, 1938 in Virginia, IL to Seth and Louise Smith Williams. He married Joyce Elaine McCulley February 14, 1959. He was preceded in death by his wife, and grandson, Sgt. Aubrey Williams, a US Marine who died in Okinawa. Pinky developed a passion for cars at an early age. As a 9-year-old boy, he rode his bicycle to the local Chevy dealer to peer in the window and look at the new cars. He loved the style of the 1953 Corvette and vowed to have one someday. Even before he had his drivers license, he purchased his first car and started tinkering with it. He perfected his trade and prided himself in making the car run even better than it was designed by the manufacturer. He learned metal fabrication from a HVAC professional, developing his auto restoration skills, even more. Pinky was one of the first auto-body men who fixed the fiberglass on Corvettes, repairing them for their owners. He will be greatly missed by his family: sons, Daniel (Sherry) Williams and Brian (Mindy) Williams, all of Chatham; grandchildren, Zach Williams of Chatham, Garry Williams of Athens, Christina (Josh) Fallis of Modesto, Justin Long of Chatham; grand daughter-in-law Miranda Williams of Beardstown; great grandchildren, Gwen, Scarlett, Jameson, Jaiden, Cameryn; sister, Mary Williams of CO; brother, James (Sue) Williams of AZ; and many friends and clients. His family will greet friends from 9am until the time of the funeral ceremony at 11am, Monday, August 28, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, IL, 62629, with Paula Staab Polk as funeral celebrant. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donors choice. Please
