He was born in Elmira, New York on April 30, 1931. Preceding him in death were his parents Charles and Marian McDonald, a son and step-son, Roy McDonald and James M. Greenleaf.
He is survived by his beloved wife Virginia Lee McDonald, Step-children, Gregg Greenleaf and Mark Stephen Greenleaf, children from a previous marriage, Robert McDonald Jr., Ann Otten, Mark McDonald, Patrick McDonald, Charles McDonald, Teresa Flesch and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob was proud of earning his Eagle Scout Badge with 53 merit badges before his 15th birthday. After high school, he became a career member of the U.S.A.F.
He earned his B.A. degree at Park College, MO. After retirement from the U.S.A.F., he became the training director for Magnavox Co. Later he earned an M.A. from Sangamon State University in Springfield, IL. He was employed by the Ill. Dept. Of Personnel, State Police Academy and Ill. Department of Transportation. After an early retirement, he became a nationally recognized speaker, trainer and seminar leader.
Bob was an avid art and antique collection, gardener, prolific reader and physical fitness participant. His past and present memberships include the YMCA, Mensa, Air Force Association, Toastmasters, and Park College Alumni Association. He was a lifelong learner and never let a day pass without learning something new.
In lieu of flowers, it was his request that donations be made to your favorite Christian Charity or the Salvation Army.
The McDonald family will receive friends at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd., Springfield, IL from 10:00 am til 12 noon Thursday, May 12, 2016. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday at the Winchester Cemetery, Winchester, IL with Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force.
