He was born in Hannibal, MO Sept. 24, 1922 the son of the late George and Mary Eva (Schultz) Culbertson. He was one of seven children, all of whom have preceded him in death. A graduate of Springfield High School, Bob proudly served 6 years in the United States Navy in the aeronautics bombing squadron 108 in the South Pacific on the Gilbert and Marshal Islands. He returned from WW II, and joined his father in Culbertson Plumbing. Bob would continue the business for over 54 years before his retirement.
He was lifelong member of the First church of Christ Scientist and a member of the St. Paul’s #500 AF&AM. Bob continued his love of aviation following the war, and became a private pilot. He served in the Civil Air Patrol for over 25 years and was a member of the Illinois Pilots Association. Bob enjoyed wood carving as a hobby.
He married Helen Kolb in 1954 and they enjoyed extensive travel experiences throughout the country as well as abroad.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Visitation and Service: The Culbertson family will host a visitation for family and friends on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 from 9:00 am until time of a funeral service at 10:00 am at the Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 s. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions: In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
