The son of Robert Lindsay and Rebecca Ethel Clark Southwick, he was born in rural Chatham in Ball Township. On September 3, 1954, he married Joan Sheppard.
Mr. Southwick was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Sue Marie Southwick.
Mr. Southwick is survived by Joan, his wife of 56 years; sons Robert Andrew Andy (Jill) Southwick, Scott Southwick and Kent Southwick, all of Springfield; brother Philemon (Jerri) Southwick of Pawnee; brother-in-law Jerry Sheppard of Hendersonville, NC; four grandchildren, a niece and several nephews. His pet Chihuahua, Perro, was his constant companion.
As a young man, Mr. Southwick served in the United States Army during World War II. Stateside he was a carpenter and worked for the Ball Chatham School District. He became an Illinois State Trooper, where he retired as a Sergeant in 1982, after serving 25 years. Restoring cars was his passion, particularly Volkswagens, and he farmed with his brother up until the last few years.
The family will greet friends Monday, August 8, from 5-7PM, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham. Due to Route 4 construction, please use the Church Street entrance. Funeral Services: 11am Tuesday, August 9, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, Chatham. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery with the InterVeterans Burial Detail conducting military honors.
