Rita D Bernet

Rita was born November 7, 1935, in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine McGrath Fitzgerald. She married Richard “Dick” A. Bernet on November 26, 1960, at Blessed Sacrament Church; he preceded her in death on February 10, 2006.

Dick and Rita were inseparable and were able to take some wonderful vacations to Rome and Ireland especially. Her first love was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Rita loved attending and being involved with all of their activities. Rita also loved to play cards with her family and being with her new retirement friends. She was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan and grew to be a Dallas Cowboys fan. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Guild Society. Rita loved Jesus and is now at peace with Richard and her Lord. She will be sorely missed.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Jody, Patricia, Rosemary, Jerome, and Eileen.

Rita is survived by her daughter, Lisa (significant other, Jim Bergquam) Kremitzki of Hickory, NC; sons, Richard Bernet of Chicago, Doug Bernet of Springfield, and Greg (Nikki) Bernet of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Kyle (significant other, Taylor McCarthy) Kremitzki, Caroline, Charlie, and Lilly Bernet; great-granddaughter, Everly Kremitzki; and brother, Thomas “Tom” (Dorothy) Fitzgerald of Springfield.

Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:15 a.m. on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 South Walnut St., Springfield. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
