Richard Wayne Smith Sr.

He was born on February 13, 1938 in Springfield, the son of the late LaRue and Elsie (Bulter) Smith. He married Patsy Smith on March 31, 1956 in Springfield, and she survives.

Mr. Smith was employed as an iron worker with the Iron Worker’s Local #46 for 42 years, retiring in 2006. He loved fishing and working in his garden.

Besides his wife Patsy, he is survived by 8 children, Susan (John) Powers of Buckhart, IL, John Smith of Springfield, Randy (Theresa) Smith of Clinton, IL, Richard Wayne Jr. (Linda) Smith of Springfield, Kathy (David Patrick) Pudschun of Rochester, IL, Greg Smith of Springfield, Samantha Marta of Virden, IL, and Jerry Smith of Springfield, 20 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters, Mary June (Ben) Williams of Chatham, IL and Alice (Stan White) Copeland of Springfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Albert and Ed Smith, 1 sister Betty Scott, 1 grandchild and multiple great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield. Per his wishes, cremation rites were accorded. No services are scheduled.
