Richard A. Bernet

Richard A. Bernet, 68, a life long resident of Springfield, died at 11:25 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2006 at Memorial Medical Center. Richard was born April 12, 1937 in Springfield, IL the son of Albert and Jennie B. Otto Bernet. He married Rita D. Fitzgerald at Blessed Sacrament Church on November 26, 1960. Mr. Bernet was a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School class of 1955. He was an office manager for Mansfield Electric, retiring after 46 years of service. He was also a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. Richard, an avid sports fan, enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears, Sacred Heart-Griffin, and NASCAR. He loved Cadillacs and working out of doors in his backyard. The greatest love of his life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Rita D. Bernet of Springfield; one daughter: Lisa M. (husband, Bill) Kremitzki of Rochester; three sons: Richard G. (wife, Carrie) Bernet of North Barrington, IL, Douglas J. Bernet of Springfield and Gregory A. (wife, Nikki) Bernet of Sterling, VA; four grandchildren: Kyle Kremitzki of Rochester, and Caroline, Charlie and Lilly Bernet of North Barrington, IL; two stepgrandchildren: Jessica and Kurt Kremitzki both of Rochester; two brothers: Robert L. (wife, Betty) Bernet and Eugene G. (wife, Cathy) Bernet both of Springfield; one sister: Sr. Regina Marie Bernet, O.P. of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield beginning with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2006 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield, IL with Rev. Philip Kraft celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
