Raymond Napoleon Richey, 80, of Pleasant Plains, died at 5:28 a.m. Sunday, August 1, 2004 at St. John’s Hospital. Raymond was born May 17, 1924 in Clinton, IA the son of Joseph and Irene Marie Bauer Richey. He married Mary W. Libbey, February 26, 1944 at Holy Trinity Church in Bloomington, IL. Mr. Richey was employed by Richardson Manufacturing as Plant Superintendent for 37 years retiring February 23, 1988. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII as a Fireman First Class. He received the American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with 1 star, Phillipine Liberation Ribbon and the WWII Victory Ribbon. He was a member of the 23 CB Club where his handle was “Hoppy”., and was also a member of the American Society of Tool Engineers. He enjoyed making silver jewelry and computing. He loved his family and dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Robert, Kenneth, Gail and Francis Richey and sister: Josena Knippel. He is survived by his wife: Mary W. of Pleasant Plains; seven sisters: Phyllis Richey of Decatur, Colleen Laudaski of Lake San Marcos, CA, Jeannette (husband, Forrest) Nelson of Aurora, IL, Mari Alice Cordle of Lakeworth, FL Kathleen (husband, Phil) Hill of Boynton Beach, FL, Lorraine Papol and Nancy Keeley both of Springfield; three brothers: Joe (wife, Mickie) Richey of Metamora, Daniel (wife, Sharon) Richey of Peoria, LeRoy (wife, Margo) Campbell of Moweaqua; several nieces and nephews and his toy poodle, Tiny. The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St. Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. John R. Ossola officiating. Burial will follow in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective League, 1001 Taintor Rd., Springfield, IL 62702-1766.
