Phyllis Byers, 92, of Springfield, died on January 15, 2022 at Bickford Senior Living. Phyllis was born March 8, 1929 to the late Almeada and Raymond Westerfeld. She married Miles Byers in Champaign, IL. on September 30, 1949. Miles died on January 8, 2004.
Phyllis received a nursing degree from Lincoln Land Community College and was retired from Memorial Medical Center. Phyllis was a member of Cotton Hill United Methodist Church (formerly Woodside UMC), the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers Auxiliary and the Ansarettes.
Mrs. Byers was a volunteer at Memorial Medical Center, the Senior Center, and both the Central Illinois and the Midwest Mission Distribution Center. Phyllis also loved to travel and visited all seven continents.
Surviving are her sons Dan, wife Candice and Glen, wife Frances both of Springfield, Douglas, wife Brenda, of Hillsboro, Stuart, wife Mary, of Chatham and her daughter Ann of Urbana, twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.
A private graveside service was held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
