Myron Melvin Haager, Jr., 71, of Springfield, passed away at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at his residence after a losing battle with cancer. Myron was born November 10, 1930 the son of Myron Sr., and Ruth Walter Haager in Dover, OH. After graduating from Dover High School in 1948, Myron attended Miami University in Oxford, OH. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated from Miami University in 1952. He entered flight training in the US Air Force. After earning his wings he was stationed at Johnson Air Force Base in Japan for 3 years during the Korean War where he was a Radar Observer in an F-94 All Weather Fighter. He retired from the State of Illinois as an Auditor in June 2001. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield. He was an avid bicyclist and rode the annual “Rag Brai” 500-mile ride across Iowa many times. He was very active and supportive of Alcoholics Anonymous and had many Alcoholics Anonymous members and other friends who helped during his illness. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Jack and a daughter Lisa. He is survived by two daughters: Christine and Amy Haager; five sons: Mark (wife, Donna), Steven (wife, Diane), Anthony (wife, Carol), Kurt Haager, Dieter Haager; five grandchildren: one sister Lois (husband, Norman) Guise of Centerville, OH and his very good friend, Carol Sarsha. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2002. Visitation will begin with the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County performing military honors. Funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Reverend Bode Zietz officiating. Burial will be at the Southlawn Cemetery in Beach City, OH following services in Dover, OH Thursday, June 27, 2002. Memorial contributions can be made to Springfield Hospice, Hospice Care of Illinois, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 62702.
