He was born on May 27, 1947, in Springfield, the son of George and Jennie Vespa Rentschler. He married Angela Adams in 2000, in Springfield; she preceded him in death.
Michael graduated from Riverton High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Michael was a pilot and loved motorcycles. He also enjoyed farming and shooting firearms. At one time, he had built every airplane that hung in a Cabela’s store. Michael was a master mechanic of anything and everything. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Riverton. Michael loved his grandchildren and spending time with his family. He liked RC airplanes and was constantly building something.
Michael was also preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his son, Aaron (wife, Wendy) Rentschler of Riverton; stepson, Nathan (wife, Kristina) Joslin of Taylorville; three grandchildren, Clayton Rentschler, and James and Josie Joslin; two cousins, Dominic (wife, Judy) Vespa of Riverton and Don (wife, Barb) Vespa of Kansas; and life-long friend, Barbara Rowe of Springfield.
A private Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church in Riverton. A private burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
