Melvin R. Spence

Melvin R. Spence of Oldsmar, FL formerly of Springfield died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Mease Countryside Hospital, age 68, He was born March 27, 1933, the son of Clarence and Pauline Lockhart Spence. He married Lois ''Rita'' Morrisse in 1959 in Carroll, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step father, James R. Cadagin. Mr. Spence was a School Administrator for many years in Rolling Meadow, Metamora and Carbondale. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War, a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. Surviving are his wife, Lois ''Rita'' Spence of Oldsmar, FL; three sons, Timothy R. Spence of Parker, CO, Scott D. Spence of Oologah, OK and Mark J. Spence of Tarpon Springs, FL; a sister, Linda (husband, Gary) Patterson Manes of Springfield, IL; a brother, Clarence ''Bud'' (wife, Phyllis) Spence of Indianapolis, IN; and 7 grandchildren The family of Melvin Spence is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 So. Sixth Street where friends may call from 4-8:00 p.m. Tuesday. A wake service will be held there at 7:00 p.m.. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Catholic Church in Riverton. with Rev. Tony Thieman officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery with the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County conducting military honors.
