Mary Jane Shimkus, 82, of Springfield, passed away at 3:02 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at St. John's Hospital. Mary Jane was born January 16, 1931 in Springfield, the daughter of John C. and Laura J. McCormick Gust. She married Felix P. Shimkus on July 17, 1948; he preceded her in death. Mary Jane worked for the State of Illinois Comptroller Office for 36 years and was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church for 60 years and a member of St. Vincent DePaul prior to that. She was also preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Phyllis, Edna Mae, Frances Ann, Lois, Nina, and Ruth; and one daughter, Louise Shimkus. She is survived by one son, Felix P. (wife, Amy) Shimkus Jr. of Manhattan, KS; one daughter, Rebecca Judd of Springfield; five grandchildren; Brian (wife Kim) Judd, Vanessa (husband, Kenneth L.) Box, Andrea Shimkus, Stephanie Shimkus, and Stephan Shimkus; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Brittany, and Hunter Box; two great-great-grandchildren, Andrew Bricker and Tabitha Box; two brothers, John (wife, Sue) Gust of Springfield, William (wife, Karen) Gust of Missouri; two sisters, Kay Adams of Springfield and Margaret Gust of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
