She was born on August 15, 1940, in Springfield, the daughter of Carl L., Sr. and June E. (Coady) Atteberry. Mary married Thomas M. Conway, Sr. on January 6, 1962, in Springfield.
Mary graduated from Ursuline Academy High School in 1958. She then graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing in 1961 and Joliet’s St. Francis College in 1979. Mary worked as a registered nurse for over 40 years, between Memorial Medical Center and the Visiting Nurses Association of Sangamon County. She was a lifelong member of the Springfield community, a member of Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, and was proud of her alumni status with both Ursuline Academy and St. John’s School of Nursing. Mary volunteered at the St. Martin de Porres Center food pantry, and was a visiting nurse at Memorial Medical Center. She enjoyed antiquing, auctions, working in her yard, 40s and 50s music, and Irish music was always her number one go-to. Mary greatly loved both her family and her nursing career.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Carl L. Atteberry, Jr.
Mary is survived by her husband, Thomas Conway, Sr. of Springfield; sons, Thomas (Mary) Conway, Jr. of Springfield, and Terence Conway of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Jaclyn, Bridget, Nicole, Emily, and Molly Conway; sister-in-law: Lynda Atteberry of El Paso, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
