It is with great sadness that the family of Marietta Ruzes of Springfield announces her passing after a devoted and wonderful life, on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the age of 94. She was born in Springfield on May 18th 1916 to John and Margaret Hulcher and married Alex Ruzes in 1948.
Marietta will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Marcia Maisenbacher, Round Rock, TX; great granddaughter Erin Maisenbacher, Springfield; granddaughters Vivion Maisenbacher, Chicago, and Susan Robinson and great grandson Zachary Thomas, Springfield. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alex, granddaughter Monica Maisenbacher and brother Gordon Hulcher.
She has a close extended family of nieces and nephews and their families including pallbearers: John, Dean, Gary and Clint Hulcher, as well as, Don Harris and Zachary Thomas.
Marietta gave her life to God, family and friends willingly and joyfully. She was a strong proponent of education and helped many of her young family members embark on their career goals with great success. An active member of Central Baptist Church for 68 years, she was well known for her devoted volunteerism most notably at Memorial Medical Center and the Illinois Presbyterian Home. She and her husband Alex were active in the Springfield Optimists, enjoyed their many great friends and travelled much throughout their retired years.
Marietta was a graduate of Springfield High and Brown’s Business College. She worked for the IL State Dept. of Registration and Education and was active in the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
She was a woman of learned opinion, conviction and strong faith; as well as a witty, fun loving friend - quick to offer a word of encouragement and a helping hand.
Visitation will be at Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen on Thursday, March 17 from 11-1pm. Memorial Service ,officiated by Pastor Reg Mills, follows from 1-2pm and burial afterwards at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Share your memories of Marietta at(www.bischandsonfuneralhome.com)
