Marian McDermott Plain

Marian McDermott Plain, 88, of Springfield, died 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at her home. She is the daughter of Franklin Earl and Louise Eck Neerman. She married Dick McDermott; he preceded her in death in 1997. She then married H. Albert "Alby" Plain; he survives her.

Marian graduated from Sacred Heart Academy and attended Loretta Heights College in Denver, Colorado. She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, the Springfield Junior League, Mary H. Blackstock Circle of King's Daughters, Island Bay Yacht Club, and the Sangamo Club and was a past member of Illini Country Club and Springfield Art Association.

Marian was very active at Blessed Sacrament, Griffin High, and Sacred Heart. She was an organizer of the very first Blessed Sacrament Auction. Marian was awarded the VOY award from the Boys Club and was a Doncaster fashion manager for 25 years.

Marian is survived by her sister, Jean Leiden of Omaha, Nebraska; seven children; John Richard (Barb) McDermott, Jr. of Springfield, Michael Edward "Muggs" (Denise) McDermott of River Forest, Kevin Neerman McDermott of Springfield, Martha Louise "Cookie" McDermott of Wheaton, Maureen Lynn "Bubby" (Travis) Wayne of Wheaton, John Peter McDermott of Evanston and Melissa Leigh McDermott of Oak Park; two step children, Hank (Lisa) Plain of Pebble Beach, California and Sally (Hank) Steining of Canton, Ohio; grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Creasey, Molly McDermott, Kaitlyn (Chris) Ezeocha, G.B. (Ashley) McDermott, Margaret (Scott) Metzger, John McDermott, Chris Wayne, Bridget McDermott, Sarah Wayne, Grace McDermott, Jack McDermott, Wilson McDermott, Kate McDermott; step-grandchildren, Henry Plain, III, Alex Carter, and Caitlyn Wilson; and four great-grandchildren, McDermott "Mac" Creasey, Quinn Creasey, Henry Metzger, and Clara Metzger.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m.- 11:15 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield.

Funeral Mass: 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Jeff Grant, celebrant.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
