

Mack Stephenson, 88, of Springfield, passed away at 1:38 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at St. John’s Hospital ER. Mack was born March 16, 1914, the son of Dutton and Jewel Stephens Stephenson in Salem, IL. He married Mary Wietzel; she preceded him in death. He married Hope T. Savage June 2, 1990 at First United Methodist Church in Springfield. Mr. Stephenson was a retired attorney specializing in Interstate Commerce and had been the corporate attorney for Prefab Transit in Mahomet, IL for 12 years. He was admitted to the State Bar September 13, 1943. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during WWII. He was a member of Island Bay Yacht Club and past Commodore and was also a member of the Sangamo Club. He was a life member of Ansar Shrine, a member of Masonic Blue Lodge #71 for over 50 years serving as Past Master. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, the Royal Order of Jesters Court #20, and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Taylorville. He was a member of American Legion Post 32 for 56 years, a life member of the Elks Lodge #158 for 53 years and Springfield Motor Boat Club. He was Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Lakeshore Improvement Association. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating, crossword puzzles and playing cards. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister: Madalene Yenck. He is survived by his wife: Hope of Springfield; one son: Michael (wife, Jackie) Stephenson of Gretna, NE, one daughter: Karen Stephenson of Springfield; two grandchildren: Stacey (husband, Steven) Cromer of Denver, CO, Patia (husband, Darin) Hargreaves of Tijeras, NM, three great grandchildren: Greyson Cromer, Austin and Carsyn Hargreaves and several cousins. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2002. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2002 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Rominger officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will perform military honors.
