Doris was born in Springfield, October 17, 1920 the daughter of Miller Albert and Maude Anna (Veara) Hysler. She married Chase Morgan McLaughlin, February 11, 1956 at West Side Christian Church in Springfield. Chase preceded her in death January 22, 1996 in Humboldt, IA. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; George Hysler and Alvin Hysler Sr.
Doris attended Harvard Park Elementary School, then graduated from Feitchans High School. She continued her education at Western Illinois State Teacher’s College earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She then earned a Master’s Degree from George Peabody College for Teachers and did additional work at Colorado College, Northern Iowa, University of Iowa and Iowa State University.
Doris began her teaching career at Decatur Senior High School, Decatur, IL. She also taught at Fort Knox Independent School, Fort Knox, KY, Fisher High School, Springfield High School, Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, MO and Humboldt Senior High School and Humboldt Junior High School, Humboldt, IA. Doris was a member of the National Education Association, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, American Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter DC, and was a past member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt, IA. She was a volunteer within the United Methodist Church and for nine years, volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield. Her hobbies included Sewing, Crafts and Genealogy.
Surviving are her son, Charles Mark (Katie) McLaughlin, grandson, James McLaughlin, and several nieces and nephews including Alvin Hysler Jr. She is also survived by dear friends, Vickie Power and Connie Miller, who cared for her.
Honoring her wishes, Cremations Rites will be accorded by the Bisch Crematory. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:00 am, at Bisch Funeral Home West 2931 S. Koke Mill Rd. Springfield, IL. Rev. Christine McFarland will officiate. The family will greet friends from 9:30 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
