Lucille Houston-Chambliss, 93, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at her daughter’s home. Lucille was born on November 7, 1920, in Sikston, MO, the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Skaggs) Houston. Lucille grew up in Cairo, IL, she married Norman A. Chambliss Sr. on February 18, 1940. They moved to Louisville, KY in 1942. In 1968 she and Norman moved to Cape Coral, FL where she worked for 20 years as a nurse at Cape Coral Hospital. In 1988 they moved back to Louisville, and in May, 2011 she moved to Springfield, IL.
Mrs. Chambliss was a member of the Louisville Liberty Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in 1946, a PTA President for Valley High School from 1960-1964, and President of the Valley Women’s Club for several years during the 1960’s.
Lucille is survived by her son Norman (Delores) Chambliss Jr, three daughters: Lawana (Roy) Scherk, Teressa (Marvin) Lions, Sue (Chuck) Peart, 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.
Preceding Lucille in death is her husband Norman Sr. in 2002, and 1 sister Juanita.
Cremation rites will be accorded by Bisch & Son Funeral Home. Lucille will be entombed with her husband at Louisville Memorial gardens in Louisville, KY at a later date.
