Louie was born May 9, 1934, in Springfield, IL, the son of Dennis and Edna Ehlert Thompson. He married Nancy Owens on February 9, 1959, in Springfield, IL.
Louie graduated from Feitshans High School and later served in the U.S. Army. Louie was a trained and skilled carpenter and over his career he worked many years for Buskis Home Supply and Arena Distributing.
Louie was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed traveling and, of course, any type of woodworking project. As we bid farewell to Louie, let us remember him not only for his craftsmanship but also for the love and generosity of his time that he poured into the lives of those around him. His legacy lives on in the sturdy structures and beautiful creations made for his family and friends that stand as a testament to his skill and willingness to help anyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, D. Jane Wilson and Edna Goin; and brother, Dennis Thompson, Jr.
Louie is survived by his wife, Nancy Thompson of Taylorville; his children, Cheryl (Joel) Bluhm of Riverton, Sue (Georg) Hoemmen of Springfield, and Louis J. Thompson of Chicago; four grandchildren, Garrett (Thuy) Hoemmen and Caitlin Hoemmen both of Portland, OR, Leigh Ann (Adam) Anderson of Sherman, and Nick (Jani) Bluhm of Henderson, NV; three great-grandchildren, Lana and Jules Anderson; and Everson “EJ” Bluhm; siblings, Larry (Carol) Thompson of Springfield and JoAnn Williams of Huntington Beach CA; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
Ceremonies will be held at a later date.
