Lionel T. Jackson, 78, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Memorial Medical Center. Lionel was born on October 2, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Rufus P. and Myrtle L. Scott Jackson. He married Donna Ford on March 22, 1969 in Springfield. Lionel proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He went on to run heavy equipment for the Operating Engineers Union Local #965 for many years and was noted as a lifetime member. Lionel enjoyed fishing and loved watching football and baseball, especially the Bears and the Cubs. Lionel is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Ingram; and his brother, Rufus "Ski" Jackson. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Donna; his daughters, Kimberly (husband, Jamie) Padgett of Springfield, and Hillary (husband, Dustin) Yantis of Taylorville, and Michelle Jackson of CA; his son, Chad Jackson of California; three grandsons and one granddaughter; his siblings, Bobby Jackson of Florida, Mary Jane (husband, Ronnie) Carter of Springfield, Ivan Jackson of Alamogordo, NM, Donnie (wife, Maggie) Jackson of Chesapeake, VA, Jimmy Jackson of Springfield, Billy (wife, Pat) Jackson of Texas, and David (wife, Carol) Jackson of Florissant, MO; as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the visitation. Memorial ceremony will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home with The Ven. Shawn W. Denney officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
