

Lester A. Walk, 71, of Springfield, passed away at 9:35 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2001 at Heritage Manor. Lester was born October 14, 1929 the son of Charles Oscar and Lois Ethel Smith Walk in Butler, Illinois. He married Theresa Kuberski January 19, 1957 in Springfield. She preceded him in death in 1989. Mr. Walk was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He retired from Springfield Airport Authority. He was a member of the Church of the Little Flower and the Order of United Commercial Travelers where he held several offices. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, REACT, as well as Polka Lovers Club of America. He was a member of the Springfield Squares, Swinging Squares and Lincoln Land Trailblazers, and a lifelong member of VFW in Waverly. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one son: Charles Michael Walk and two sisters. He is survived by one daughter: Sandra (husband, Chris) Walden of Sherman, two grandchildren, Kevin and Mary Walden of Sherman; three sisters: Olive (husband, Bill) Keck of Shiloh, IL, Mabel Kadow of Chicago, IL, Lois Walla of Romance, AR; one brother: Charles (wife, Alice) Walk of Waverly, IL; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2001 with a prayer services at 4.00 p.m. Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2001 at Church of the Little Flower with Reverend’s Henry Schmidt and Mark Johnson celebrants. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will perform military honors.
