

Leslie T. Mitchell, 94, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday April 8, 2015 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home. Leslie was born on August 9, 1920 in Towanda, IL., to Ralph and Edith Fillmore Mitchell, he married Helen F. Stover on January 1, 1942 in Towanda and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2013 after celebrating 71 years of marriage.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by two sons: Leslie F. (Kathy) Mitchell of Washington, IL., and Robert W. Mitchell of Springfield, one daughter Margaret E. Lamsargis of Springfield, four grandchildren: Pam (Dave) Cain of Washington, and Brittney (Kelby) Trowbridge, Stacey Lamsargis, and Lacy Mitchell all of Springfield, three great-grandsons: Kevin, Kyle, and Kody Cain of Washington, one great-granddaughter Abbey Miller of Springfield, two sisters: Darlene Atkins and Donna (Ken) Mattingly and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a twin brother Wesley Mitchell, brothers: Wayne and Lloyd Mitchell, and sisters: Doris Black, Irene Graybeal, Cleo Snyder, and Carol McDaniels.
Leslie was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving in World War II. He was a Master Sergeant with the Illinois Air National Guard 183rd Fighter Squadron and worked there as a Maintenance Supervisor Sheet Metal Worker retiring after 37 years of service.
