Les was born on January 13, 1961, in Hiawatha, Kansas, the son of Loyd and Annalouise (Christy) Straub. He married Teresa “Terri” (Stevens) Straub on April 8, 1989, at St. Joseph Church in Springfield, Illinois.
Les was a 1979 graduate of Mahomet-Seymour High School. He was a member of the Mahomet-Seymour 1977 football state championship team and varsity wrestler for the 1978-79 Mahomet-Seymour wrestling team that placed 5th in the State. Les earned a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University.
Les met the love of his life and wife of over 33 years, Terri, while working at Jewel-Osco at Ninth Street & Converse Avenue in Springfield, IL in 1988. Les and Terri raised three children, lived in Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois. Together, they were parental influences for several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Les was a loving husband, a loving brother, a proud father and uncle, and an even prouder grandfather.
Through the years, Les served as a district manager for Osco Drug and Meijer Inc., and most recently worked for Quicksilver Mailing Services. Les was a member and secretary of Joe’s Slovak Club. He was an accomplished trout fisherman, enjoyed golf, Illini football and basketball, and was a dedicated Kansas City Royals and Indianapolis Colts fan.
Les was preceded in death by his wife, Terri; his parents; and his grandson, Keith Straub. He is survived by his sister, Barb Straub of Nebraska; son, Shawn (Lindsay) Turner of Colorado; two daughters, Maria Straub of Indiana and Eva Straub of Illinois; eight grandchildren, including Julie and Toby Straub, who resided with Les and for whom he was the primary caregiver; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 South Sixth Street, Springfield, Illinois.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
