Leah "May" Miller, 89, of Monticello, formerly of Springfield, died at 6:10 a.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Kirby Medical Center. May was born July 1, 1927 in Carlinville, the daughter of Alvah John and Emma G. Potter Ruggless. She married Gerald D. Miller on June 22, 1958 in Springfield; he preceded her in death in 1998. May retired from Montgomery Ward and was a member of First Christian Church in Monticello. She enjoyed canning, gardening, crafts, and painting. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jerry and David Miller; three brothers, Al Ruggless, Robert Ruggles, and John Ruggless; and four sisters, Clara Ball, Eunice Bascom, Emma Ruggless, and Mary Lou Frank. She is survived by her children, Jack (wife, Mary Ann) Miller of Taylorville and Kimberly (husband, Steve) Bliven of Monticello; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Ruggless of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Dusenberry officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
