Kobe James Carey, 12, of Pleasant Plains, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at his residence. Kobe was born on June 18, 2005 in Springfield, the son of Brian S. and Carla L. Richards Carey. Kobe was going into 6th grade at Pleasant Plains Middle School. He was a kind and loving young man who always gave his teachers a hug in the morning. He enjoyed playing in the JFL, PlayStation, drawing, writing, and loved his family and his animals. Kobe wanted to be a police officer or a soldier when he grew up. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jim and Lawanda Richards, and his paternal grandfather, James Bruce Carey. He is survived by his parents, Carla and Brian Carey of Pleasant Plains; three siblings, Colt James Carey of Pleasant Plains, BreAnna Lynn and Kaleb Dial of Virginia Beach, VA, and Nicole M. Carey of St. Louis, MO; grandparents, Evella and Bill Buoy of Springfield; aunts and uncles, Craig and Carla Carey of Springfield, Sharon and Paul Carpenter of Springfield, Ronald and Linda Richards of Rochester, Rick and Margie Richards of Springfield, Bob and Darlene Richards of Rock Hill, SC, and Stacey and Dean Graven of Springfield; one nephew, Caiden James Carey; many cousins; best friend, Carter; and two dogs, Red and Stella. Funeral Ceremony and Visitation: A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield with TC Roesch, officiating. Family will receive friends following the ceremony until 7:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following ceremonies.
