He was born on June 13, 1950, in Springfield, the son of David and Christine (Pershing) Murphy. Kenneth married Pamela “Pam” E. Noesges on May 9, 1981, in Springfield. She preceded him in death, on April 22, 2021.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Ali Murphy.
Ken graduated from Griffin High School in 1968 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. He was a regarded state employee with the IL Department of Transportation, retiring after more than 30 years of service. His life passion was family, his soul was dedicated to the church, and his time to the community. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Saint Agnes Church. He served his faith community in tithing and volunteerism. Ken was a weekly driver for Daily Bread, delivering meals to the elderly of Springfield. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Ken was a beloved coach to several teams in the sport of soccer and basketball; always willing to share his time to help another succeed or thrive. Ken was an outgoing, joyful and loyal man. Some even deemed him the ultimate host, ensuring everyone had somewhere to go and everyone had a libation, of course. If you ever did make it to a Ken Murphy party, you were astounded at his passion for keeping his home and yard meticulous. Ken was exceptional and one of a kind.
Ken is survived by his daughters, Lauren Renee (David) Niepert and Meghan Christine Murphy, both of Springfield; grandchild, Cameryn Elizabeth Murphy of Springfield; great-grandchild, Scarlett Rose; brother, William (Darlyn) Murphy of Skokie, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Ave., Springfield, with Fr. Daniel J. Bergbower, celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
