Kenneth Wayne Davis, 83, of Springfield, died at 4:19 a.m. on Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home. Ken was born September 27, 1930 in Springfield, the son of Herman Harrell and Edith Rosa Hughes Davis. He married Lois Ruth Suckow on February 9, 1957 in Springfield; she preceded him in death on May 25, 2008. Ken was a graduate of Springfield High School and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from the University of Illinois. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant 1st Class. After he was discharged from the army he joined his father as Vice-President of Davis Finance Company. He was the owner of Circle Tour & Travel from 1968 until his retirement in April 2002. Ken was an Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Acacia Fraternity at the University of Illinois and was a past President of the American Business Club. He was a 50-year member, 32nd Degree, of Springfield Masonic Lodge #4 A.F.&A.M. Ken refereed high school football, wrote a newspaper column on travel, and served as manager of the Springfield Youth Hockey Association. He was involved for many years with DANK (Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress). He served on the board of the Springfield Theater Guild. Ken enjoyed volunteering his time with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. He also enjoyed fishing, travel, and classical music. He was also preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Davis Stittsworth of Springfield and Jennie (husband, Eric) Moy of Indianapolis; his son, Dr. Mark E. (wife, Pam) Davis of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Abigail Rose Davis Cline, Benjamin Henry Moy, Lyndsay Lillian Moy, Keegan Kenneth Davis, and Delaney Bryn Davis; two step-grandchildren, Mason and Max Valley; sister, Donna Kay (husband, Richard) Davis of Bella Vista, AR; one niece, Debi McDaniel, and his beloved dog, Hope. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 533 S Walnut St., Springfield, IL 62704 with Rev. Julie Wells Blythe officiating. Private family burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to: Gift of Hope Organ Donation, 660 N.
