Joseph M. Cimmer, 92, of Springfield, died at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Cimmer was born March 21, 1911 in Buffalo, NY, the son of Michael and Anna Cimmer. He married Helen Kansy in 1959 in Petersburg. She preceded him in death on July 2, 1998. Mr. Cimmer was a graphic artist and worked for the Springfield Park District, retiring in 1974. He was a former member of the American Civil Liberties Union. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers: Ed Cimmer and Frank Cimmer. He is survived by one daughter: Margaret (husband, Richard) Blankenship of Springfield; two grandchildren: Kara (husband, Aaron) Walz of Champaign, and Greg Blankenship of Springfield.; and three great-grandchildren: Abigail, Noah and Caleb Walz, all of Champaign. Private family services will be held. The family of Joseph M. Cimmer is being served by Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.
