Joey was born December 8, 1946, in Orani, Bataan (Philippines), the son of Jose B. Sr. and Estelita G. Sy-Quimsiam.
He graduated high school in the Philippines and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Far Eastern University. He moved to New York City in the 1970s before moving to the Land of Lincoln. Joey was a man of simplicity and wanderlust and found joy in living a very simple life. He made sure to make time to connect with his family back home in the Philippines after moving to the United States. Joey also took great pride in his children and watched them grow in their own lives with his grandchildren. He loved sports and was proud to watch this carry over to his children and grandchildren. Joey also loved to go to the race track and watch the horse races.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Romeo Gigante Sy-Quimsiam.
Joey is survived by his sons, Jojo Saldana Sy-Quimsiam of Guam and Jonathan Marc (Jennipher Pham) of San Jose, CA; daughter, Cathleen-Faye (Mel) Agustin of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Miette Sy-Quimsiam, Micah Agustin, Zane Sy-Quimsiam and Chance Agustin, four siblings, Estela G. Sy-Quimsiam, Susan S. Angeles, Ophelia S. Servillas, and Sylvia G. Sy-Quimsiam; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL.
