John William Burrus, 83, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on January 26, 2024 at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort, Myers. He was born on February 12, 1940 in Buffalo, Illinois to Charles O. Burrus and Dorothy Enos Burrus. John married Janet Fritz and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2010.
Mr. Burrus is survived by two sons: Todd Burrus of Deerfield, and Chad Burrus of Libertyville, three: grandchildren: Miles C. (Abigail) Burrus, Ethan S. Burrus and Dane W. Burrus, and one great-granddaughter Lily Burrus. Also surviving are sisters and brothers Nancy Dick (Joseph) of Scotland, MD, Charles Burrus (Patricia) of Williamsville, IL, Carolyn Stone (Richard-deceased) of Springfield, IL, Dorothy Syler (Earl-deceased) of Chicago. IL, and David Burrus (Elaine) of Buffalo, IL.
John was a Captain in the US Army. He worked for Abbott Laboratories and was very instrumental in developing their market in bulk pharmaceuticals. John traveled the world and he developed the customer base and markets for Abbott. He enjoyed fishing in Florida and hunting in Central Illinois. John loved and cherished his family and his beloved wife Janet.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Bisch & Son Funeral Home, 505 East Allen Street, Springfield, Illinois. The family will greet friends from 9:00 am until time of service at 10:30 am.
A graveside service will be held following the funeral at 11:30 at Constant Cemetery, Constant Cemetery Road, Buffalo Hart, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children and condolences may be left at www.bischandsonfuneralhome.com
