John was born on December 03, 1955, the son of John Paul and Adele (Perlberg) Berry. He married Laura Kay Skeels on April 11, 1987, in Springfield; she preceded him in death on March 19, 2023.
He was a dedicated employee for the Illinois State Bar Association as a maintenance engineer for 23 years. He was a jack of all trades and master of many and was always willing to help family and friends. John and Laura’s house was the place to be on weekends and holidays. John was an avid fan of the Bears (he never missed watching a game, no matter how painful). He was also a die-hard Cubs fan. He enjoyed golfing, going to breakfast every week with his sister Jill, loved dogs, and grilling out while watching his children and grandchildren swim.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura; brother, Michael Berry; nephew Michael May; and brother-in-law Jerry McCurley.
He is survived by his daughters, Elyse (Ryan) Berry and Emma Berry; grandchildren, Adelyn and Briggs Berry, and Lakyn and Hudson Riech; siblings, Mitch Berry, Greg (JoAnn) Berry, Judy (David) Smysor, David Berry, and Jill McCurley; best friend, Michael Johnson; and beloved dogs, Kansas and Max. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center following the service.
Visitation and Funeral Ceremony: Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham, a funeral ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home-Chatham, with Judy Woerner officiating.
