Joey Dawson

Joey Dawson, 65, of Springfield, died at 5:21 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at Memorial Medical Center. Joey was born on February 20, 1953, in Springfield, the son of Paul "Friday" and Hazel Duffield Dawson. He married Cheryl Yocum on September 4, 1995, in Las Vegas, NV. Joey graduated from Porta High School in Petersburg and earned his associates degree from Spoon River College. He was employed as a truck driver for many years and then as a heavy equipment operator foreman for Higginbotham Excavating. Joey was a member of Athens Christian Church and enjoyed riding Harleys and rebuilding motors. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a brother-in-law. He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Dawson of Springfield; daughters, Melissa (husband, Nathan) Knoles of Petersburg, Julie (wife, Jonette) Dawson of Nilwood, Luci J. Dawson of Springfield, and Jolene L. Dawson of Springfield; grandchildren, Taylor and Devin LaSanska; siblings, Bessie Hannel of Ashland and Walter "Louie" (wife, Georgia) Dawson of Petersburg; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Private family ceremonies will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, P.O.
