He was born on November 26, 1972, in Springfield, IL, the son of Jeffry Sr. and Janet (Belford) Lopian. Jerry married Shea Nonneman on August 19, 2000, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Springfield.
Jerry graduated from Rochester High School in 1990 and received his master’s degree in education leadership from University of Illinois – Springfield. He went on to teach at Lanphier High School, Springfield High School, and lastly Southeast High School from 2009 until his passing, where he taught A.P. Human Geography and AP World History. Jerry was an active member of the teacher’s union with the Springfield Education Association and Williamsville High School Band Boosters; president of the Flaggland Homeowners Association; advisor of N.H.S. at Southeast High School; and Scholastic Bowl Coach and announcer at the basketball games. He enjoyed golf, karate, and technology (especially computers), and talking about his family and bonding with his students. Jerry was an avid Pittsburgh Penguin hockey fan who loved watching Blue Bloods with his wife, Shea. He was extremely caring and would bend over backwards to help anyone in need. Jerry had a good sense of humor and a big personality. He was always supportive of his daughter, Addison and wife, Shea.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shea Lopian of Sherman; daughter, Addison Lopian of Sherman; parents, Jeffry Sr. and Janet Lopian of Springfield; brother, Jeffry (Christine) Lopian, Jr. of Athens, IL; Mother and Father In-Law, Paul and Ann Nonneman of Riverton; sisters-in-law, Kirsta Nonneman (Stuart Beauchamp), Kelsi Nonneman, and Brie Nonneman; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center, prior to services.
Memorial Gathering: The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home - Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
Graveside Memorial Ceremony: A private memorial graveside will take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park.
