Janet Kay Johnson, 73, passed away on the evening of Sunday, April 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving and devoted family and friends at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 7, 1949, in Carlinville, Illinois to John V. and Alda K. Arter who proceeded her in death. Jan married the love of her life, Don, in Springfield, Illinois, on April 16, 1988, after reconnecting with him at their 20-year high school reunion.
Jan is survived by her husband, Don Gene Johnson, and her three daughters, Cathy Miller Moushon, Angela (Angel) Gonzalez, and Lana (Alonzo Rivas) Johnson. She was loved and cherished by her grandchildren, Jayden Moushon, Matthew Gonzalez, Corinna Gonzalez, Alexis Gonzalez, Jacob Gonzalez, Samantha Rivas, Isabel Rivas, and Layla Rivas. She was a beloved sister to John (Brenda) Arter of Raymond, IL, and Carol (Mark) Sexton of Spring Hill, FL. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered and loved by her extended family and friends.
Jan graduated from Lincolnwood High School and started a career in banking for many years. She eventually left banking to work for the City of Springfield and then for the State of Illinois before retiring. She loved her rescue dog, Chance, and spoiled him rotten. Jan also loved calling her grandchildren "monkey toes" and other silly names, giving her wonderful caregivers, Michelle, Katrina, Rosanna, and Connie an entertaining and sometimes eventful work day, listening to country music, especially Willie Nelson, crafts, and shopping. She was known lovingly as the QVC Queen.
Our Janet, also fondly known as Jan, Mama, Grandma, and Sunshine will always be loved. She holds a special place in the hearts of her husband, daughters, and grandchildren, and will be missed by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 pm on Monday, May 8, 2023, at Bisch Funeral Home West, with burial to follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family will greet family and friends from 11:00 am until the time of service at Bisch West.
