Janet Helen Coe, 87, of Springfield, died at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018, at St. Josephs Home. Janet was born on December 18, 1930, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Paul and Helen Rees Gehring. She married Lauren A. "Dutch" Coe on November 24, 1956, in Quincy; he preceded her in death on February 25, 2017. Janet was employed with Memorial Medical Center for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and was a student tutor there, as well. Janet served as the secretary for the Depression Era Glass Club for many years, volunteered at a Girl Scout camp in Hawaii, and volunteered at the Dana- Thomas House where she was also a docent. She also served as program director for the Memorial Medical Center Retirees Club and on the board at the Brinckerhoff Home. She enjoyed traveling, was an accomplished sketcher, loved crafts, genealogy, collecting antiques and glassware, calligraphy, and was a great cook. Janet was best known for her lemon meringue pie. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert and Russel Gehring; and sister, Marilyn Wilsson. She is survived by her children, Janice (husband, Herman) Lumpkin of Quincy, MA, Dave (wife, Laura) Coe of Normal, Daniel (wife, Lorraine) Coe of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mary Pickford of Springfield, Thomas (wife, Theresa) Coe of Springfield, and Charles (wife, Shannon) Coe of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Skip Lumpkin, Andrew Coe, Alex Coe, Dennis Coe, Nicole Pickford, Tiffany Cordier, Michael Coe, Elizabeth Palmer, and Sarah Coe; and three great-grandsons, Beck and Grey Cordier and Shawn Lumpkin. Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at St. Aloysius Church, 2119 N. 20th St., Springfield with Rev. Clinton Honkomp, O.P. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
