James A. "Tony" Smith

James A. “Tony” Smith, 64 of Springfield died at 5:02 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004 at Sangamon Care Center. Tony was born February 1, 1940 in Springfield, the son of James Henry and Veda Horchem Smith. He married Linda L. Holmquist on June 11, 1963 in Omaha, NE. He was a graduate and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Westminster College in Fulton, MO. A lifelong resident of Springfield, Tony owned and operated Illinois Insect Control Company for 35 years retiring in 1998. Tony was a US Army Veteran. He was a 37-year member of Hope Presbyterian Church and served several terms as an elder. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Springfield Motor Boat Club, Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and Ducks Unlimited. He was former member of Rotary South where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He enjoyed boating, fishing, being outdoors and playing poker. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife: Linda L. Smith of Springfield, sons: Kirk (wife, Karen) Smith of Round Lake Beach, IL and Randy Smith of Santa Barbara, CA., daughter: Wendy (husband, Tom) Klein of Denver, CO, four grandchildren: Benjamin and Molly Smith of Round Lake Beach, IL and Kallie and Taryn Klein of Denver, CO, sister: Kay (husband, Dean) Burrous of Decatur, two aunts, four uncles, three nieces, one nephew and numerous cousins. Cremation accorded by Cremation Tribute Center. The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004 at Hope Presbyterian Church, 2211 W. Wabash, Springfield. Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2004 at Hope Presbyterian Church with Rev. Debra Avery officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
