James Michael Ryan

Mike was born on May 12, 1941, in Springfield, the son of James E. and Catherine A. Sullivan Ryan. He married Diane J. Marsh on April 18, 1969, in Springfield.

Mike was a 1959 graduate of Cathedral Boys High School and attended Springfield Junior College. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1961-1968. Mike worked for Bergner’s for 18 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed music, piano, traveling, shopping, and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tom Ryan.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Ryan of Springfield; one son, David M. (Penny) Ryan of St. Joseph, IL ; three daughters, Michelle A. (husband, Aaron) Nelson of Springfield, Cathy L. (husband, Curt) Moffitt of Springfield, and Debra K. (husband, Eric) Wolf of Chatham; nine grandchildren, Andrew and Joshua Nelson, Aaron and Annaleigh Moffitt, Evan and Ethan Wolf and Samantha, Katie and Brady Ryan; three siblings, Daniel J. Ryan, William P. Ryan, and Rita A. Cannatta.

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 245 N. Amos Avenue, Springfield with Rev. Don Wolford, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
