James "Jim" Riggins, 86, of Springfield, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at St. Johns Hospital. Jim was born on January 8, 1931 in Greenville, IL, the son of Harold H. and Lura Ledbetter Riggins. He married Carolyn "Sue" Anderson on July 20, 1950 in Pocahontas, AR. Jim was a 1949 graduate of Greenville High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was employed by IL Bell Telephone for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion #743, the Knights of Columbus, and the Bell Telephone Pioneers. Jim enjoyed fishing, Cardinals baseball, and fixing antique phones and radios. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara A. Riggins; his parents; and his sister, Norma Ten Clay. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn "Sue" Riggins of Springfield; one son, James M. "Jim" Riggins of Springfield; two daughters, Deborah S. Gamel of Naples, FL and Vicki Riggins of Scottsdale, AZ; six grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation and Funeral Mass: Family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:15 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2017 at St. Marys Catholic Church, 404 East Birch St., New Berlin. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Angel Sierra, celebrant. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
