James Ogilvy, 79, a resident of Springfield for two years, formerly of Michigan and Scotland, died at 12:40 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2007 at his home. James was born on November 20, 1927 in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth McQuaid Ogilvy. He married Margaret Houston on July 26, 1946 in Eastwood Parish Church in Glasgow, Scotland. He served in the British Royal Navy. He was a member of Elk’s Lodge 158, life member of Cathcart Masonic Lodge in Scotland and a member of Scottish Rite and past chieftain of Scottish Clans. He was a happy-go-lucky gentleman with the nicest smile who enjoyed playing golf and the tenor drum. James retired in 1988 from General Motors where he had been employed as a welder for twenty-two years. Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Margaret Ogilvy of Springfield; one son, Tom (wife, Elizabeth Margaret) Ogilvy of Springfield; one daughter, Janice (husband, Danny) Burtch of Lewiston, MI; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Sadie (husband, James) Fullerton of Glasgow, Scotland, Dan (wife, Ester) Ogilvy of Paisley, Scotland, Ernest (wife, Hanalore) Ogilvy of Germany and Betty (husband, George) McAllum of Michigan and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. The family welcomes friends to visit at a Memorial Gathering from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Memorial Ceremony to be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at Season’s at Pine Creek, 3201 Conifer Dr., Springfield with Rev. Joe Eby officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Illinois, 720 N. Bond St., Springfield, IL 62702-9914 or Sacred Heart Retirement Convent, 1237 W.
