He was born on June 11, 1945 in Murdock, IL the son of the late John E. and Leona M. (Long) Melton. He married Rebecca Alberts in Springfield and she survives.
Mr. Melton worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. in Tuscola, IL, retiring in 2006, after 39 years of service. He was a member of Sherman United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, Becky, he is survived by 2 daughters Lisa (husband Danny) Mapel of Charleston, IL and Ashleigh Taylor of Springfield, and a son Jacob Taylor, of Springfield, 4 brothers, Gary (wife Linda) Melton and Sam (wife Mary) Melton, both of Tuscola, IL, Mike (Kathy) Melton of Monticello, IL, and Terry Melton of Camargo, IL, his mother-in-law, Kay Alberts of Springfield, 2 sisters-in-law, Julie Alberts and Lori Shafer, both of Springfield, 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Alberts of Springfield, and Mike (wife Cheryl) Alberts of Hannibal, MO, several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his dog and faithful companion Amy and his loyal horse Buddy.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and a sister.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 from 4 to 8 pm at Sherman United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 12 Noon at the church, with Rev. Mike Pennell officiating. Burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Springfield.
