James H. "Jim" Keys, 55, of Rochester, passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at St. John's Hospital after his courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born on May 18, 1955 in Springfield, the son of George E. and Janet Phelps Keys. He married Ann Alborg on May 24, 1980 in Springfield. Jim attended Howe Military Academy, was a graduate of Havana High School and earned his bachelor's degree at MacMurray College. He was employed at the Department of Human Services as a Management Operation Analyst. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #158 and coached Rochester Youth baseball for several years. Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his kids play soccer, where he did most of his coaching from the stands. He also enjoyed landscaping, and especially spending time with his family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ann of Rochester; son, T.J. Keys of Rochester; two daughters, Katie (husband, Braxton) Weaver of Shiloh and Cassie Keys of Rochester; brother, George (wife, Lynda) Keys of Springfield; two sisters, Wendy (late husband, Bill) Lyons and Joanie (husband, Gene) Bian, both of Springfield; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved dog, Tucker. Family will receive friends from 4:00 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. A funeral ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Deacon Martha Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery.
