

He was born on October 4, 1944, in Springfield, the son of Charles E. and Eula M. (Young) Stickel. Jim married Sharon K. Maxwell on May 26, 1973, at First Christian Church in Springfield.
Jim was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He fought in Vietnam and received many awards and medals, including the silver star. Jim was a captain with the Springfield Fire Dept. for 28 years and retired in 2003. While working full-time at the fire department, He had a second job doing construction work. Jim enjoyed fishing and working out in the yard with his plants, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Stickel; children, Eric Stickel (companion, Michelle Bardwell), Shannon (Dan) Ryan, and Kasie (Aaron) Wagner; and grandchildren, Madelynne (husband, Grant McNeal), Danny, David and Rebecca Ryan, Ehren and Emilee Stickel, and Elijah and Savannah Wagner.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Eula Stickel; and grandchildren, Devon and Dylan Ryan.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.
Funeral Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home – Springfield, with Celebrant Judy Woerner officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County and the United States Marine Corps Burial Detail.
