Jim was born on April 13, 1959 in Springfield, the son of James L. and Fritzie Duker Belz.
He was a graduate of Griffin High School, Springfield College in Illinois, and Western Illinois University. At the time of his death he was employed by the State of Illinois Department of Human Services for 15 years. Jim was previously employed by Heartland Credit Union as Sr. Vice President.
Jim was extremely fond of his family and friends, beloved by his co-workers and cherished by his nieces and nephews. Jim was especially proud of his daughter Jennifer and all of her accomplishments. Jim's passions included reading, watching his favorite St. Louis Cardinals, gourmet cooking, and extensive love of foreign travel.
Jim will be dearly missed by friends, family and coworkers.
He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Peter) Belz Weitz of Chicago; Jennifer's mother, Connie Hutter Howett; his mother, Fritzie Belz of Springfield; one brother John (Lisa) Belz; three sisters, Gina (Dave) Farris, Kathy (Larry) Grubb, and Linda (Joe) O'Connor all of Springfield; beloved nieces and nephews, Erik (Becky) Grubb, Kelly (Jacob) Sullivan, Ryan (Leslie) Farris, Abbey Grubb, Katie Belz, John Michael Belz, Patrick Belz, Jack O'Connor, Maddie O'Connor, Max O'Connor; and great-niece and nephews, Maggie, Hudson, and Caleb.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2015 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.
Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 748 W Laurel St., Springfield, with Rev. Jeff Grant officiating.
Private family burial will be held at a later date.
