Jack Victor, 81, of Springfield, passed away on Friday September 9, 2016 after a lengthy illness at Memorial Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born on February 10, 1935, the youngest of seven children, to Mary and Selig Victor.
After high school Jack joined his extended family in Alton, Illinois at the Thrifty Drug Warehouse. He was drafted into the US Army in 1957 and spent two years in Germany with the 37th Engineering Group. Upon his return Jack met the love of his life Rita Wolfson. They were married on September 9, 1962 in Springfield and then moved to Alton where all three of their adored children were born. During that part of his career he opened fifteen Thrifty Drug Stores within a major discount chain.
Jack is survived by his wife Rita of Springfield, two sons: Steven (Stephanie) Victor of Lake Forest, IL., and Martin (Sandra) Victor of Long Grove, IL., his beloved daughter Haralyn Victor of St. Louis, one sister Ida Ruth Victor, eleven nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews and his three grandchildren: Lielah, Ruby, and Joseph Victor who were the highlights of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and sisters and their respective spouses: Rose (Nat) Perlmutter, Albert (Sonny) Victor, Sidney (Selma) Victor, Maurice (Reva) Victor, and Fanny (Les) Levin.
In 1972 Jack brought his family back to Springfield where he was the manager of the new Hub Clothiers at Chatham Square but the drug store business was his calling and he finished his career for Fox Meyer and McKesson Drugs. During those years he was an acclaimed salesman and won many national awards. Jack was a lifelong member of Temple Israel where he prepared many meals for the congregation and loved to participate in special events. He was a member of the Springfield Jewish Federation and he particularly enjoyed his poker games.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Monday September 12, 2016 at Temple Israel, 1140 West Governor, with Rabbi Barry Marks officiating and burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 9:30am until the time of service Monday at Temple Israel.
