Helen G. Park, 89, of Williamsville, passed away at her home on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Helen was born January 8, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of Dr. Gerald C. and Grace E. (Beason) Hunt. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield. Helen married Mel Park on July 16, 1944 in Springfield, she worked for Illinois Bell Telephone, the U.S. Government, Illinois Light and Power, Franklin Life Insurance, and the State of Illinois. Helen became a homemaker after the birth of her son and remained so until she passed.
Helen was an active member of First Christian Church in Davenport, IA, where she rarely missed a Sunday morning service or Bible study group. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years in Springfield and Davenport, and was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed working with her husband in a number of fund drives which included the Salvation Army, American Heart Association, and blood bank drives with the Rock Island Rotary Club. She was widely known for the beautiful hand work she created.
Surviving Helen are her loving husband of 69 years Mel, her son Scott (Kim) of Williamsville, grandchildren: Anthony (Billi) of Auburn, Andrew (Stephanie) of Athens, Angela (Jon) of Sherman, her great-grandchildren: Gavin, Connor, William, John, Elizabeth, Jacob, and Bryce, step-granddaughter Shannon Smith of Williamsville, and step-great-granddaughter, Jade Moughan.
Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, January 11, at 10 am at Bisch & Son Funeral Home 505 E Allen St. Springfield, IL 62703. The family will greet friends from 9 am until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Williamsville.
