Helen L. Bumpus Kane, 90, of Springfield, died at 3:10 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Bridge Care Suites. Helen was born May 10, 1924 in Lowder, the daughter of Gertrude Quinn. Helen was employed as an Office Associate for the State of Illinois until her retirement. She previously provided childcare in her younger years and built wonderful relationships that lasted throughout her life, specifically with Stevie Skaggs. She was a member of the Eagles Aerie Club 437, who lost a steady customer, as Helen enjoyed her weekly visits and chats. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who called her grandma, GG, and great Helen. The Bumpus Christmas tradition began in 1967 with family and friends and continues through this year as matriarch, Helen, carrying on the love, laughter, and the thousands of decorations and gifts. The decorations included the bells that rang on the toilet seat to the Christmas toilet paper. Her last night was spent with her son, Patrick, at happy hour, with a Bourbon in her hand. She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cathy L. Brown; and great-grandson, Carter Selinger. She is survived by her son, Patrick (wife, Patty Long) Bumpus of Springfield; son-in-law, Dr. Duane A. Brown of Loami; four grandchildren, Craig (fiance, Tanya Shanks) Brown, Chris (wife, Karen) Brown, Marc (wife, Katie) Brown, and Tara Perry; five great-grandchildren, Quinn, Ella, Leah, Hannah, and Mason; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and extended family, Donna Fitts, Al and Jean Fitts, Susan Hardesty, Brian and Shannon Tamblin, and Layden and Brendan Tamblin.
