Heather Nicole Gonet, 11, of Springfield, died on April 6, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Akron, Ohio. Heather was born November 17, 1995 in Springfield, the daughter of Michael and Candice (McCarty) Gonet. Heather was a 5th grade honor roll student at Blessed Sacrament Elementary School. She was a very kind, loving girl with an infectious smile. She was involved in many activities at the YMCA where she participated in gymnastics, soccer and reached “flying fish” in swimming. She was an avid roller skater who started skating soon after learning how to walk. Heather also enjoyed origami, painting, drawing, poetry, writing, cooking and reading, including Harry Potter. She really loved animals, especially her dog Scout. Heather also enjoyed the outdoors, with her favorite place being Lincoln Memorial Garden. She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother: Nira McCarty and great-grandfather: David E. Sullivan. She is survived by her father: Michael Gonet of Springfield; mother: Candice Stanley of Springfield; stepfather: Jeff Stanley of Springfield; one brother: Tyler Stanley of Springfield; five aunts: Susan Gonet, Jessica Hashman, Stephanie and Melissa Roberts, all of Springfield and Angela Garlo of Divernon; grandparents: Phil and Cathy Gonet of Springfield, Patricia Gonet of Wenham, MA, Kevin and Linda Roberts of Springfield, James & Patti Hayden of Hammond, IN, Tom and Merri McCarty of Cape Coral, FL and Chuck and Janie Stanley of Springfield; great-grandparents: Phyllis Gonet of Danvers, MA, Walt McCarty of Springfield and Charles and Elaine Lukesch of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Family will receive friends from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 S. Walnut, Springfield. Visitation will begin with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rev. David Hoefler, celebrant and The Very Rev. Robert E. Brodie present. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Heather N. Gonet Memorial Scholarship Fund, to provide financial assistance to children to attend Blessed Sacrament School.
