Gordon “Andy” Anderson, 68, of Springfield, died at 4:37 p.m. on March 19, 2006 at St. John’s Hospital. Andy was born on June 11, 1937 in Neosho, MO, the son of Robert L. and Freda L. Cherry Anderson. He married Marilyn Lloyd on July 24, 1970; she preceded him in death on November 3, 1996. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, reaching the rank of Full Staff Sgt. and was a recruiter for the U.S. Air Force. Andy was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA with a 4.0 grade average in the specialties of fingerprinting, photography and handwriting analysis. He was a Police Officer with the City of Springfield for seventeen years and the former Chief of Police for Southern View from 1993 to 2002. Andy was also Court Security Officer for the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office for fifteen years until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He beat The King and His Court in fast pitch softball and enjoyed small engine repair. Andy was a lifelong member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son: Troy David Anderson; one sister: Betty Jane “Sis” Anderson and four brothers: Billy Ray Anderson, Carl Russell Anderson; Raymond Lee Anderson and Teddy Lee Anderson. He is survived by four sons: David Lee (wife, Deanna) Anderson of Des Moines, IA; Craig Eugene Anderson of Des Moines, IA; Gordon Eugene (wife, Dawn) Anderson, Jr. of Varna and Dwayne Allen (companion, Jennifer Banks)Anderson of Cantrall; one daughter: Kerri Sue Rogers of Des Moines, IA; ten grandchildren; two brothers: Robert Lee Roy Anderson and Ronald Dean Anderson; six sisters: Joann Anderson; Anna Lue Glover; Barbara Sue Collins; Rosa Lea Dyer; Freda Jo Ann Anderson and Catherine Marie Brock and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Rev. Donald L. Wolford officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.
